Thanks to Amy Coffin at WeTree for this prompt:
49. Use your blog like a sounding board for research plans. Sometimes it helps to write down what you want to do, so you can plan how to do it.
Here is a random list of research activities I want to conduct in 2010:
- Order death certificates for all direct ancestors for whom one is available (if I don’t have one already of course). This includes Francis T. Kendrick, Lizzie (West) Kendrick, James Benjamin Butler, Maud (Whitener) Butler, Newton Coleman Ward, Rachel (Johnson) Ward, Francis Marion Kendrick, David Sanford Butler, Josephine (Hemphill) Butler, William Everett Whitener, Mary (Patterson) Whitener, Martin LaFayette Roberts, Mary (Forrester) Ward.
- A first step for some of these people will be to search death indexes to determine the exact name the certificate was issued in, confirm the death date, and learn the certificate number.
- Write to North Carolina Archives to see if they have marriage certificate for Ben Hemphill and Martha Lytle.
- Continue collecting marriage and death certificates from Georgia’s Virtual Vault.
- Look for Eastern Cherokee Applications for the Davis/Patterson/Chapman connections on Footnote.
- Continue looking at newspaper records on microfilm at the Chatsworth-Murray County library.
- Add RSS feeds to Google Reader for the message boards related to my major surnames and localities.
- Process all the random notes, emails, and to-be-entered records that are piling up, so that my in-box is not overflowing and I don’t have extra stacks on my desk.
I plan to revisit this post periodically throughout the year to update progress and add new to-dos as I think of them.
